Quantum Phases in Two-dimensional Frustrated Spin-1/2 Antiferromagnets

چکیده
Investigating various spin-1/2 systems in two dimensions (2d), by means of exact diagonalization (ED) on small samples of N spins, we have found, up to now, four kinds of antiferromagnetic phases at T=0. Two of them display long range order (LRO): Néel or Valence Bond Crystal (VBC) LRO. The others are two different Spin-Liquids. The Néel case may be qualified as semi-classical: it is a groundstate of the (spin-∞) classical model with an order parameter reduced by quantum fluctuations. The others are purely quantum phases. The hamiltonians considered are SU(2) invariant, like the Heisenberg hamiltonian and its generalizations as the J1 − J2 model or the J1 − J2 − J3 model and the multiple-spin exchange (MSE) model. All these models of magnetism picture exchange (or super-exchange) between fermions. The permutation operator of two spins reads:

Universal magnetic properties of frustrated quantum antiferromagnets in two dimensions.
We present a theory of frustrated, two-dimensional, quantum antiferromagnets in the vicinity of a quantum transition from a non-collinear, magneticallyordered ground state to a quantum-disordered phase. Using a sigma-model for bosonic, spin-1/2, spinon fields, we obtain universal scaling forms for a variety of observables. Our results are compared with numerical data on the spin-1/2 triangular ...

Insulating antiferromagnets offer a rich playground to explore novel quantum phases of matter. Triangular lattice s=1/2 antiferromagnets are of especial interest due to their reduced dimensionality, low spin, and frustrating interactions which all conspire to disrupt magnetic order, as found experimentally in several instances. The resulting “quantum disordered” phases are expected to have nove...
متن کاملFrustrated Quantum Antiferromagnets: Application of High-order Coupled Cluster Method
We report on recent results for strongly frustrated quantum J1–J2 antiferromagnets in dimensionality d = 1, 2, 3 obtained by the coupled cluster method (CCM). We demonstrate that the CCM in high orders of approximation allows us to investigate quantum phase transitions driven by frustration and to discuss novel quantum ground states. In detail we consider the ground-state properties of (i) the ...
متن کاملQuantum phase transitions in frustrated two-dimensional antiferromagnets
We study frustrated, two-dimensional, quantum antiferromagnets in the vicinity of a quantum transition from a non-collinear, magnetically-ordered ground state to a quantum disordered phase. The general scaling properties of this transition are described. A detailed study of a particular field-theoretic model of the transition, with bosonic spin-1/2 spinon fields, is presented. Explicit universa...
متن کاملSpinons and triplons in spatially anisotropic frustrated antiferromagnets
The search for elementary excitations with fractional quantum numbers is a central challenge in modern condensed-matter physics. It has long been speculated that two-dimensional frustratedmagnets might support quantum disordered states with neutral spin-1/2 excitations known as spinons. Despite decades of search, however, no clear experimental examples have been found. We explore the possibilit...
